Cosmelan Depigmentation Treatment
Target. Regulate. Reveal Even Skin.
Cosmelan is a professional depigmentation treatment method designed to target and regulate skin pigmentation.

Unlike a simple peel that only works on the surface, Cosmelan addresses both:
  • Corrective action: visibly reduces existing pigmentation spots.
  • Regulating action: controls the over-production of pigmentation (melanin) to help prevent spots from reappearing.
It is commonly used for conditions like hyperpigmentation, melasma, sun spots, post-inflammatory pigmentation.
How Does It Work?
  1. In-clinic application (Phase 1)
A mask (often known as Cosmelan 1) is applied by a skincare professional, left on for a set time (often 6-12 hours depending on skin type and severity).
  2. At-home maintenance (Phase 2)
After the mask is removed, the patient continues a home-care regimen (e.g., Cosmelan 2 cream) to support continued depigmentation, inhibit melanin formation and maintain results.
  3. Active ingredients & mechanism
The treatment works by inhibiting the enzyme tyrosinase (key in melanin production) and by promoting skin renewal.
Examples of active ingredients: azelaic acid, kojic acid, phytic acid, vitamin C derivatives.
What It Treats
  • Hormonal pigmentation / melasma (for example caused by pregnancy, contraceptives)
  • Sun-damage spots, age spots, freckles
  • Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (after acne, trauma)
  • Uneven skin tone and dull complexion
Benefits
  • Works on a wide range of skin types and tones, including darker skin tones which often have higher risk of pigmentation.
  • A combined approach (surface + origin) helps better long-term results compared to superficial peels.
  • Helps not only fade spots but also improves skin clarity and tone.
What to Expect (Process & Aftercare)
  • After mask removal, skin may appear red, tight or slightly irritated. Some peeling may occur.
  • Visible improvements often begin within a few weeks; continued improvement over months with proper home care.
  • Maintenance phase is important: consistent home use of depigmenting cream, sun protection, avoiding triggers is key.
  • Your skincare professional will set the mask-wear time, post-treatment regimen etc, based on your skin type and pigmentation severity.
Who Should Consider It / Contraindications
Good candidates:
  • People with stubborn pigmentation or melasma not responding well to simpler treatments.
  • All skin tones, though must be assessed by professional.
Consider caution / may need to wait:
  • Active skin infections, open wounds.
  • Recent use of isotretinoin (Accutane) or certain skin treatments (consult dermatologist).
  • During pregnancy or breastfeeding (often advised to wait).
  • Realistic expectations: this is not about lightening your natural skin colour, but correcting unwanted pigmentation.
